Velotropolis neighborhood bike tour kicks off CSA-by-bike service

Sean Conroe from Alleycat Acres, Liz Nixon from Bike Works, the wonderful folks from Clean Greens and your humble Seattle Bike Blog editor have been working on a side project called Fork + Frame. The concept is pretty simple: Clean Greens (operated out of the Central District with a farm in Duvall) has more locally-grown produce than CSA subscribers, and we like bikes and supporting local agriculture.

So Fork and Frame is a service that will deliver the Clean Greens CSA to your Capitol Hill or Central District doorstep via bicycle every week (see map of delivery area). Best part: The delivery is free of charge.

To kick the whole project off, we’re holding a neighborhood bicycle adventure July 23. Velotropolis will test your knowledge with the neighborhood (or teach you all about it if you’re unfamiliar with this fascinating and exciting part of town) while taking you on a tour. At the end, we’ll have home-cooked food and prizes. Entry is $5 and up (donate what you can, proceeds go to Clean Greens). You don’t have to sign up for the CSA or live in the area to go on the ride. Most of all, we want to have fun with good people and good food in a wonderful neighborhood. If you want to join us, sign up online.

From the Fork + Frame website:

What: A bike adventure throughout the Central District.

Bring your thinking caps! You’ll get clues for different historical points of interest within the neighborhood. Then it’s up to you to get to the next checkpoint — cruising around the city streets, putting your knowledge of the CD to the test. (But don’t worry — we won’t object to bringing along a bike map or using a smart phone if you don’t know where to go.) Oh, and don’t forget to dress up in a costume!

When: Saturday, July 23rd, 2011
Time: 12 PM – 2 PM, followed by a block party
Location: TBA; Various.

Cost: Sliding scale, $5 – Whatever you can afford. The person who donates the most during registration will win a 1 month CSA share (valued at $120).

Swag & Prizes: At the end of the adventure, each rider will be well nourished with an amazing home cooked meal + bbq. Yum! Plus you’ll have an opportunity for one of the prizes below:

1. 1 Month CSA Share: Awarded to the person who donated the most upon registration;
2. 2 Week CSA Share: Awarded to the person who has the most awesome costume.
3. 1 Week CSA Share: Awarded randomly for all cycylists completing the ride.
