Possibly impaired driver strikes biker in 10th Ave E construction area

An impaired driver stuck a woman riding her bike on 10th Ave E at Lynn early Saturday morning, according to the SPD Blotter (hat tip CHS). The biker was riding northbound on 10th when the driver of an Infinity G20 driving eastbound on Lynn stopped at the stop sign, then continued into the intersection and struck the victim.

She was transported to Harborview with serious facial and head injuries. The driver was evaluated for impairment by police and was booked into King County jail. The driver is being investigated for felony vehicular assault.

CHS also points out a witness-reported car vs pedestrian incident early Friday on Pike that sounds awful.

From the Blotter:

On September 18th at approximately 2:17 a.m. a female bicyclist was traveling northbound on 10th Avenue East approaching East Lynn Street.  At approximately the same time a silver Infinity G20 traveling eastbound on East Lynn Street stopped for a stop sign at 10th Avenue East.  The Infinity then drove eastbound across the intersection and collided with the bicyclist.

SFD medics responded to the scene and transported the cyclist to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of head and facial injuries that she sustained from the collision.

Investigating officers evaluated the driver of the Infinity for signs of impairment due to alcohol and/or drugs. Impairment was detected and the driver of the car was transported to Harborview for a blood draw (results pending laboratory analysis).

The driver of the Infinity was subsequently booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Vehicular Assault, a felony.

The Infinity was impounded and taken to the evidence garage.  Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate.
