Seattle Bike Swap Sunday

The 15th Seattle Bike Swap will be held Sunday at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. All vendor slots have been booked, so there should be lots to choose from. Bring cash. From the Cascade Bicycle Club website:

The Seattle Bike Swap, now in its 15th year, is a bike bargain hunter’s paradise with up to 100 vendors under the same roof! Expect great deals on new and used bike-related goods, from complete bikes to small parts. You never know exactly what vendors will bring to sell and what treasures you will find. Don’t miss this one-day-only sale!

Admission

General Adult Admission is on a sliding scale depending upon arrival time:
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. – $5
1 p.m. to 2 p.m. – FREE
Kids under age 15 are FREE all day!
Be sure to bring cash or checks with you, as most vendors won’t take credit cards. As always, the best thing to “swap” for goods is cash. There are cash machines located near the Exhibition Hall.

My main experience with these “swaps” being from my childhood on the east-coast, I must say I was a bit disappointed.

I wasn’t really interested in high-end accessories for gear-heads sold by vendors, but that’s mainly what this is.

I was looking for what the name implied – folks trying to get rid of an old bike they no longer use or had upgraded away from. There was none of that.

Are there any true swaps around, or am I relegated to craigslist for such things?

I lived in Philly for a long time, and the T-town swap was fantastic. I am now in Portland, and I have come up a few times to the Seattle swap, and it’s never dissapointed me.
