A man in his 30s was taken to Harborview in critical condition after the driver of a red 1990s minivan struck him and drove away around 7 p.m. Monday. We will update as we learn more.
Update 4/12– SPD has posted about the incident on the Blotter:
On April 11th, at approximately 6:50 PM, a bicyclist was riding northbound in the outside lane in the 2200 Block of 1st Avenue. A vehicle described by witnesses as a mini van was also travelling northbound in the same block and either collided with the bicyclist or was involved in a situation that caused the cyclist to crash. The driver of the vehicle then sped from the scene northbound on 1st Avenue. The male cyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained a serious head injury and was transported to Harborview Medical Center by Seattle Fire Medics. Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded and began their investigation. TCIS detectives will be responsible for the follow up investigation. Anyone with information on this collision is asked to contact Seattle Police.

Eyewitness Courtney Hampton tells KIRO 7 she heard horns blaring before seeing a van hit the bicyclist.
Hampton said bystanders immediately went to the bicyclist, wrapped a scarf around his head and used coats to keep him warm until medics arrived.

My heart goes out to the cyclist. I hope he recovers rapidly. I also hope he is not stuck with all those medical bills. :(
