Announcing Seattle Bike Blog’s first ever subscription drive + 1 million page views!

Last week, Seattle Bike Blog received its one millionth page view. It’s been a wild ride since I started the site in July 2010, and there is no sign of slowing down.

Thank you all for reading and contributing the thoughtful and productive comments that make Seattle Bike Blog a special online space for bicycling discussion in Seattle. And thanks to all our awesome advertisers who take advantage of our killer deals and support our work in the process.

To help take SBB to the next level, we are now announcing our first ever subscription drive. As a subscriber, you won’t necessarily get any extra content (the blog will remain open and free, don’t worry), but you will get love, kharma and probably some silly emails and random stickers and things. Subscribing is your chance to help boost the blog by giving us the resources to spend more time reporting, adding features and organizing events.

You can subscribe in three levels: Subscriber – $5/month, Rad Subscriber – $10/month and Mega Rad Subscriber – $20/month. If you can fit any of these levels into your monthly budget, it would go a long way in supporting this shoestring, independent bike news and discussion website. Subscribe below now or at anytime using the subscription feature in the sidebar:

So what sorts of improvements can you expect? In July, we announced the launch of our Events Calendar as a way of ringing in our second year. I’m pleased that a whole lot of you are using the calendar now as a way to promote your bike events and reach a wider biking audience. I set out to copy the success of the Portland’s Shift to Bikes calendar, and with the help of Seattle Neighborhood Greenways (which has generously shared its city-wide event calendar, marked in green), it is just about there!

We also recently launched a Bike Map feature with an interactive bike map from Ride the City and links to other bike map options.

Upcoming SBB events include the Third Annual Seattle Cranksgiving and the first ever SBB Happy Hour meetup (if your bar is interested in hosting, email Tom).

Bicycling in Seattle is growing fast, and the landscape is changing. Even since starting SBB, the bike-friendly vision of a growing number of Seattle residents has shifted dramatically toward a clear, inspiring goal of streets that are safe and welcoming to people of all ages and abilities. When I started, some asked whether there was enough bike news to sustain a blog. Now, I could write about it full time and still not keep up with my ever-growing list of sometimes frustrating but mostly inspiring happenings around town

Thanks again for reading. Stay tuned for more!
