115 Bryant Elementary students paused for a moment of silence in honor of those killed and injured just blocks away from Top Pot Doughnuts, where they gathered Friday morning.
Then they hopped on their bikes and scooters and headed to their school with SPD providing an escort down the usually-busy 35th Ave NE.
The ride was a previously-scheduled Spring Fling ride, but the nearby tragedy earlier this week gave the joyful and youthful event added weight. A collection box went around, raising money for the victims of Monday’s collision, and one organizer said it ended up being a respectful way to bring some smiles back to the streets.
For more on how friends, family and neighborhood residents are responding to the fatal collision, see our previous post.
Mixed emotions at Spring donut ride this AM: Moment of silence for lives lost. Also kids, bikes & lovely spring day buff.ly/Ykze5V

This is amazing! What a great turn out!
Beautiful. I love seeing the building and re-building of community.
