I am curious as to why events like the STP and RSVP are still not sold out. Is biking becoming less popular?
My impression from commuting by UW is that cycling is more popular this year than any other year I’ve lived in the city (going back to 1979)… by far. My wife and I did a ride on the trail out to Redmond Pete’s two Saturday’s ago, when it was so nice (maybe Sunday?) — most congestion ever.
Organized rides may have peaked in popularity. Back when I actually rode STP in ’86 and ’87, I recall graphs that showed the huge percentage of first time riders. My brother and I didn’t want to ride again because it was too crowded. ’87 was capped at 4000. Anyway, could have just peaked as an event, even though in general the sport is more popular then ever.
