Cyclefest 2013 is tonight at Seward Park

cyclefest-2013Watch a bike race in real life, then Stage 18 of the Tour de France on a projector screen at Seward Park tonight.

Cascade Bicycle Club is hosting their annual Cyclefest party at the park tonight (Thursday) starting at 4 and going until 10:45. There’s beer, vendors, activities for kids and more.

Before we settle in to watch Tour de France, local racers will be competing in the Thursday Night Bike Races in the park. These short, fast-paced criterium races will feature men categories 1 through 4 as well as a women’s only race.

While the racers are going in circles, you can browse the vendor booths, take the kids to play at the art table and Wheelie Fun Course, relax with a picnic in the grass or catch up with friends over frothy Schooner Exact Brewery beverage in the beer garden.

As the sun goes down, all eyes will be on a giant, inflatable screen as the world’s best male cyclists compete for a Tour de France stage win in the mountains.

Here’s the schedule of events:

4 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Kids activities -Bike art table and Wheelie Fun Course & more
5 p.m:  Parking lot up top closes=-limited space thereafter until 9pm when Road opens after races
5 p.m:  Randy’s Urban Grill sausage cart, and beer garden featuring Schooner Exact
5:30 p.m – 9:05 p.m:   Thursday Night bike races. The very best in top quality bicycle road racing!
9:05 p.m:  Upper road open- free parking is available very close to the amphitheater
9:15 p.m:  Drawing for Raleigh bicycle and other great prizes
9:20 – 10:45 p.m: Stage 18 of the Tour de France on the big screen!

    There ain’t many events for us Southend bikers, so I’m gonna try and get out of my volunteer duties early to check this out!
