The folks behind a new series of bicycling and yoga retreats on Vashon are holding their first of what they hope will be monthly free women-only bike rides March 17.
Real Active Women (RAW) will meet in the parking lot of Gregg’s Greenlake Cycle at 9 a.m. for a “casual” 25-mile ride to Seward Park and back.
The three-day retreats start in May and run once a month through the summer. The retreats are organized Tracey Gramenz and chef Patrice O’Neill.
More details from RAW retreats:

Way cool.
Women only?
At first it sounds OK, but if you think about this closer this is really sexist.
Why is it acceptable to have Women only cycling activities, while if there was ever a Men only bike activity, that would be ridiculous.
I mean I can not think of any bike ride that is men only as being Ok, yet it is completely socially acceptable to have women only events.
And at the same time women want to have complete equality to men.
Have you ever heard of a really popular ride called the Tour de France?

In a male-dominated culture such as cycling (especially the sport end of it), safe spaces for people who are not male are important to many people.
Thank you Tom!
srsly, thanks tom, for responding to that dude much more eloquently than most would have. it’s pretty embarrassing that it’s 20-freaking-12 and we still have to explain male privilege.
have fun st. patty’s day dashers!! sounds like a BLAST!!
