Port of Seattle study of Nickerson confirmed the project would not affect traffic – UPDATED

UPDATED: The Port denies this study ever existed. See update at bottom of story. Publicola found out an interesting little tidbit the other day. After hearing concerns from many industrial and maritime businesses that the Nickerson changes would adversely affect traffic, the Port of Seattle conducted their own study. Guess what it showed:

Nickerson bike lanes in, construction still in process

I took the new bike lanes on Nickerson for a test ride yesterday afternoon. The road is still torn up for a couple blocks leading up to the Fremont/Westlake/Dexter/Nickerson intersection, so it’s a little early to tell how the project will affect traffic. Pushing the car vs bike fight is not helping

Clearly, I am not someone who shies away from a good car vs bike fight … when it makes sense. But so often, they are unnecessary and distract from other surrounding issues, such as pedestrian safety. Road diet proposed for NE 125th, open house Monday

View Larger Map SDOT will hold an open house Monday, July 26 to give a glimpse at plans to reconfigure a 1.3 mile stretch of NE 125th between Roosevelt and 35th Ave NE. The plans sound similar to other so called “road diets” the city has seen recently.
