Roosevelt and University Bridge bike lanes finally green

I was beginning to wonder if they forgot. Or maybe they ran out of money, I thought. It has been months since the bike lanes on Roosevelt, 11th and near the University Bridge went in, and I noticed from the start that there were sections marked “green.” Yet time passed and still no green.

Bike lanes are in on 11th north of the University Bridge

The bike lanes have been painted on 11th through the U District. Coupled with the lanes on Roosevelt, there are now bike lanes in both directions connecting to the University Bridge. And there was much rejoicing.

Painting has begun on Roosevelt

SDOT has started painting a bike lane on Roosevelt that will go south from 75th to the University Bridge. There will also be a lane headed north one block over on 11th (turns into 12th at Ravenna Blvd). Peak hour parking restrictions have also been removed.

Roosevelt parking removal NOT an issue

Almost nobody uses the parking on Roosevelt between 75th and 85th. I went on a ride up Roosevelt to check out the parking situation, and was actually surprised to find a mere 7 cars parked in the 10-block stretch of on-street parking SDOT has proposed for removal in order to install a bike lane. Residents worried about parking removal on Roosevelt

Some residents near the proposed parking removal on Roosevelt were upset by the plans and voiced their concerns at an open house last night, Maple Leaf Life reports.
